Project Summary

[11/2017 - 12/2018; 8 active devs, 14 months]
Project contracted by the Dutch army to rework a simple drawing tool developed by our company about 10 years ago. The original scope of the project was supposed to integrate the tool into our new editor UI and provide 1 to 1 functionality with the original tool. During the development of the project this has turned into whole new mode of editor which offered extended versions of the original tools, new tools and ease of use the original tool was lacking.
The UX process included: stakeholder interviews, customer interview at the start of the project, regular customer meetings for feedback, extensive use cases which served later as template for acceptance testing, multiple phases of wireframing, interactive mockups, user testing, final pixel perfect UI, implementation testing, creation of product unique icons.
Thanks to the investment in the UX for this tool it was used in demonstrations to other customers during it’s development phase. The demos were done by our developers who despite having no knowledge how to use the tool were able to demonstrate basic use cases of using the product and afterwards by the customer themselves showing it off to other customers. The project was successfully accepted by the Dutch army in December 2018.
Due to good level of UX on this project it was split into basic version which went into baseline of VBS3 and is now provided for free to all customer who buy license and Pro version with extended functionality that is licensed separately.
